Even though I know we all waaaant to memorize every single line in every single book.
Okay! I like to collect quotes, not just from Pike, but from any book/movie that has good quotes for the taking. Does anyone else do this? If so, what're some of your favorite Pike quotes? I found this place, http://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/19954.Christopher_Pike with some Pike quotes, most of them are from Thirst/The Last Vampire. Here are some of my favorites: "You have built walls to keep the world out and the world, in turn has built walls to keep you inside." -- Road to Nowhere "I say oh a lot. The world is always taking me by surprise." -- Sati "You search endlessly for permanent happiness in a place where nothing is permanent." -- Sati "If she wasn’t God, she was everything God should be." -- Sati "You will love me, for here is your jugular, and here is your carotid." -- The Season of Passage "I believe in angels. I believe in you." -- The Season of Passage (I think something similar to this was said in Midnight Club; Pike reuses a lot of stuff, but I never get tired of reading.) "The joys you believe you’re going to recapture will be like poisons to your soul. The sunlight you long for will burn you. The fresh waters you crave will blind you wherever you go. You will buy your youth at a bitter price." -- The Season of Passage "Hate and fear and love are all in the heart. I felt that when he played his flute. I don't just hate you. I didn't just fear you." -- The Last Vampire (1) "I have given him the kingdom of eternal night, and all he wants to do is take a walk under the sun." -- The Last Vampire (2) "He was an alchemist, who could turn stone into gold, sunlight into ideas, moonlight into lust." -- The Last Vampire (3) "'Goods news or bad news?' 'The good news.' 'It’s yours.' 'What’s mine?' 'The bad news.' 'What?' 'The baby.'" -- Whisper of Death I'ma stop before I get carried away, even though I completely left out The Starlight Crystal. "Religion is man-made. It is not eternal. It is not real."

That's one of my faves. I used to have a bunch from Remember Me, but it's been forever since my last read. "A little pinch and then sweet" from Season of Passage is actually one of my LEAST favorite quotes, because that book scared the daylights out of me the first time I read it and I couldn't get that line out of my head. Too much sanity may be madness, and the maddest of all: To see life as it is and not as it should be.

That means it's a good quote, if it gets stuck AND scares you. It's like a vampire-version of, "Here's Johnny."
I couldn't ever get that many quotes from Remember Me. Not that it wasn't a good book, it's just good as a whole, instead of in little parts, I guess. Lemme see if I have any. I only got six or so quotes, but these were my favorites; I think they're all from that guy Shari went to see in the third book. (I love the life lessons): "Yet you look to the future to make you happy. I’ll be happy, you say, when I’m married. Then, after you get married, you think, I’ll be very happy when we have children. Of course, when you have kids you can’t enjoy yourself without a house. You postpone your happiness until that perfect future date, but it never arrives." "I watched a football game yesterday on TV. A few minutes of it. I kept thinking: why are all these grown men fighting over this ball? What would an intelligent race from another planet think if they were watching this game? Why doesn’t someone just give them each a ball so they can relax?" "Relationships are mysterious. We doubt the positive qualities in others, seldom the negative. You will say to your partner: do you really love me? Are you sure you love me? You will ask this a dozen times and drive the person nuts. But you never ask: are you really mad at me? Are you sure you’re angry? When someone is angry, you don’t doubt for a moment. Yet the reverse should be true. We should doubt the negative in life, and have faith in the positive. Assume that your partner loves you. No matter what happens. Remember this: love is not an emotion, it is your very existence." "Religion is man-made. It is not eternal. It is not real."

My fav bad ass Sita line of all time 'If you are afraid to die, you should have never been born.'

I like that quote as long as I'm not on the receiving end of it.
I imagine it'd be kind of annoying then. "Oh, yeah? Sorry. If you didn't want to lose your husband and little girl to a vampire you helped bring into the world, you shouldn't have been born." I also imagine I'd be dead before I got to finish saying that...

"Death never comes at the right time, despite what mortals believe. Death always comes like a thief." The Last Vampire
“You will see that the things you desire most are the very things that bring you the greatest sorrow.” not sure which one, but one of the 'Last Vampire' books. I've always remembered this particular quote because it's often so very true. From Last Act Susan: He was dropped as a child (about Jeramie) Jeramie: Every child should be. "I was just a normal teenager." Rela (The Eternal Enemy) "Most people would probably call me a ghost. I am, after all, dead. But it wasn't so long ago I was alive, you see. I was just 18. I had my whole life in front of me." Shari Cooper (Remember Me) I have TONS more of these quotes in my head. I need to figure out which quote belongs to which book and come back and post them. :) |

I know that it's been, like, almost an entire year since this thread has been started but I felt a little nostalgia for reading material that I used to enjoy at a much younger age, and still DO enjoy. I came across this page and want to share a poem of sorts that I read and memorized a LONG time ago - I still love it to this day and it still gives me goose pimples when I recall it.. I believe it is from, "The Midnight Club," or possibly, "Remember Me?" (Please excuse my punctuation.. Lol. I don't remember how it appeared exactly in the book!) :) - michelle_lupson@hotmail.ca
"All are doomed to burn. Love feeds the flames, days of endless pains And the smoke takes each in turn. All are doomed to rust. Time destroys our lives, nights cut like knives And the wind carries away the dust All are doomed to love All are doomed to die Tonight, bring the black tomb For even the most high, Even those in this room Cannot pretend to fly And I know Even You Even I Must Die." ~Prayer of the False God~ |

I can't remember that poem from the Midnight Club. Maybe one of the Remember Me's, but I'm pretty sure I never saw it in the Midnight Club. Maybe, I dunno. I'll investigate!
I hadn't even realized it's been so long since I started this thread... "Religion is man-made. It is not eternal. It is not real."

One of my favorite quotes:
Remember Me Series - Book Two: The Return Shari was talking to the Rishi when she was considering becoming a Wanderer. "I told you, this is a dream. What would you like to dream with Peter. It can be anything. It can be even be that you don't know that it is a dream. Really, that is all human life is. Just a dream people choose to enter into so that they can learn something. But people take it so seriously and become afraid of their own creation. They even fear to wake up. That is the one lesson humanity most needs to learn in the coming days. That there is no reason to be afraid. That things work out for the best. That God knows what she is doing." |

Looking through a lot of these quotes--especially the more spiritually-oriented ones--I see a whole bunch of connections to my World Religions class. I just started reading the section on Hinduism, and I expect to see Sita or Paige to show up any time.
I always knew Pike based a lot of the books' philosophies on that system of belief, but it's just weird seeing Krishna and maya and all that in a text book. Just a little life-note. "Religion is man-made. It is not eternal. It is not real."
